Our Suggested Vienna Itinerary For 3 Days
If you’re coming to Vienna and are looking for some sightseeing inspiration, we’ve created a three day itinerary to help you see the best of the city. From top attractions, monuments and museums, discover Vienna’s rich culture and history – and you won’t spend a euro cent extra!
DAY 1
Morning
HOP ON HOP OFF BUSTOUR
One of the most popular ways to travel around the city and see the sights is aboard a HOP ON HOP OFF Bus Tour. With over 37 stops around Vienna, you can tailor-make your own route, whether it be around the Imperial palaces, around the Danube, or around the Ringstrasse. KUNSTHISTORISCHES MUSEUM VIENNA
Get a real culture fix to finish off day at one of the city’s most prestigious museums, the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of Art History). Built by Emperor Franz Joseph to house his personal imperial collections, it showcases pieces from over five millennia. One of the most notable collections is the Kunstkammer, the world’s most impressive collection of its kind with all manner of fascinating objects waiting to be seen…
DAY 2
MORNING
SCHÖNBRUNN PALACE STATE APARTMENTS
Head out to the beautiful baroque Schönbrunn Palace and admire the stunning architecture and be swept away with the opulent history of this 18th century building. Once the summer retreat of the Imperial family, visitors can now take a tour around its grand rooms and walk through the huge estate to learn about the day to day life of the former residents of this historic palace.
MIDDAY
SCHÖNBRUNN ZOO
If you’re visiting Vienna with the family, Schönbrunn Zoo is a must on your bucket list of the city. It’s the oldest zoo in the world dating back to 1752 and has fascinating habitats for the kids to see; such as Polar World, ORANG.erie and the Monkey House. Set amongst the historic setting of Schönbrunn estate, you really can’t beat it for a unique experience!
AFTERNOON
IMPERIAL CARRIAGE MUSEUM
Get more of an insight into the Imperial family with a visit to the Imperial Carriage Museum set within Schönbrunn Palace. It exhibits historic carriages and vehicles giving you a glimpse into court life at its finest! You can see the baroque coronation coach of the Habsburgs, as well as learn about the well-loved Empress Sisi and her legacies and personal artefacts.
EVENING
GIANT FERRIS WHEEL
End the day with a trip around the Giant Ferris Wheel and see the city illuminated at night. This iconic attraction gives you unparalleled views over the city and is one of the most loved features on the Vienna skyline. Journey around the wheel and take in the sights from this unique perspective.
MIDDAY
HOFBURG IMPERIAL PALACE
The Hofburg Imperial Palace is one of the most impressive historic buildings in Vienna, not just for its style and stature but for the role it played throughout Vienna’s Imperial past. It was through this palatial powerhouse that the Habsburgs ruled their Empire so there is plenty to see and learn about, from the Imperial Apartments, to the Sisi Museum and Imperial Collection.
AFTERNOON
ALBERTINA
The Albertina is one of the most prestigious art galleries and museums in Vienna and housed within the Hofburg Imperial Palace so it has been a cultural hub since 1776. Now it is home to one of the most important print rooms in the world, as well as showcasing masterpieces by Monet, Degas, Matisse, Picasso and Miro – among others.

Schönbrunn Zoo was founded in 1752 by Emperor Franz I Stephan of Lorraine, Maria Theresa's husband, making it the oldest zoo in the world, yet it is also one of the most modern zoos in the world. It has also won several awards as the best zoo in Europe and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Schönbrunn.
